One of Canada’s Most Trusted Investment Brands.
At Picton Mahoney Asset Management (PICTON Investments), being alternative isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are.
Founded by industry pioneer David Picton, we’ve spent 20 years challenging conventional wisdom and redefining the investing landscape. As one of Canada’s most trusted investment brands, we are proudly independent—privately run, 100% employee-owned, and deeply committed to delivering results for our clients.
Thinking Alternatively is in Our DNA.
With a team of 203 bold thinkers—one-third dedicated solely to investment management—we are specialists, not generalists. Managing $16.1 billion for institutional and retail clients, we navigate markets with conviction, resilience, and a forward-thinking approach.
We’re more than investors — we’re innovators. We challenge traditional investment mindsets, constantly pushing the boundaries to achieve our mission: To bring greater certainty to investors.
Our success is built on four guiding principles:
Treat investors’ money like our own.
Redefine the way investors invest.
Be human—always approachable.
Succeed together, one investment at a time.
These aren’t just words—they define how we think, how we invest, and how we work.
Now, we’re entering our next chapter. We’re transforming our brand and reshaping the way the world invests. If you think alternatively, embrace an entrepreneurial spirit, and thrive in a dynamic, bureaucracy-free environment, join us and be part of what’s next.
Thriving in Our Entrepreneurial Culture
At PICTON Investments, you’ll thrive in our creative and dynamic workplace, where collaboration and support are at the core of everything we do. At our firm, you’ll have the opportunity to take on significant responsibilities, work in a flexible environment, and tackle challenging projects from the outset. Our culture is designed for ambitious professionals who want to make an immediate impact while continuing to push boundaries and achieve our greater mission. You’ll be empowered with a high level of responsibility, trust, and flexibility, providing an exciting and creative space for you to help reshape how the world views alternative investments. With competitive total rewards, performance-based bonuses, and a clear path for career growth, you’ll have everything you need to develop both now and over the longer term.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Design Intern to support ongoing digital design projects and gain hands-on experience in UX/UI, accessibility, and responsive design. This role is perfect for someone who’s ready to apply their design fundamentals in real-world settings under the mentorship of a Senior Designer.
You’ll contribute directly to live projects, assist in refining design systems, and collaborate with designers, developers, and stakeholders. Whether you’ve built your skills through formal education or personal projects, if you’re curious, motivated, and detail-oriented — this is your chance to grow in a professional design environment.
You’ll Have the Opportunity to Learn and Lead:
Work closely with a Senior Designer to create, refine, and document digital design assets.
Support the development of user interface layouts, components, and visual systems using tools such as Figma or Sketch.
Contribute to wireframes, prototypes, and design iterations, ensuring alignment with accessibility and usability standards.
Organize and prepare assets for developer handoff and documentation.
Participate in design reviews — giving feedback, applying revisions, and sharpening your design eye.
Conduct basic design QA to ensure quality and consistency across implemented interfaces.
Learn how design systems are structured and maintained, and how design decisions impact the end-user experience.
What You’ll Gain:
Hands-on mentorship and feedback from a Senior Designer.
Exposure to real-world UX/UI workflows and accessibility best practices.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Practical insight into how visual design translates into functional digital experiences.
Opportunities to build portfolio-worthy projects guided by professionals.
What We’re Looking For
Skills & Knowledge:
Basic working knowledge of Figma or Sketch.
Understanding of UX principles and UI design practices.
Awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG) and usability guidelines.
Familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator, or equivalent design tools.
General understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (conceptual, not coding).
Strong grasp of color theory, typography, and responsive design principles.
Awareness of design systems, reusable components, and pattern libraries is an asset.
Familiarity with collaboration tools like FigJam, Miro, or Notion is a plus.
Who You Are:
Meticulous with details and proud of your design craft.
Curious, collaborative, and open to feedback.
Communicative and proactive in team settings.
Motivated by learning and growing your skills through mentorship.
Comfortable in an iterative, fast-paced environment.
Education & Background:
Enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Design, HCI, Digital Media, or related field — though this isn’t mandatory.
Self-taught designers with personal or conceptual projects are equally encouraged to apply.
A portfolio is required (academic, personal, or conceptual work welcome).
Candidates without a portfolio may be invited to complete a short design exercise.
Mindset
We’re looking for someone who’s naturally curious — someone who enjoys solving design problems, experimenting with ideas, and learning through doing. If you’re eager to grow your skills, contribute to real projects, and gain mentorship from an experienced designer, we’d love to meet you.
